Alternative to FinViz

FinViz is definitely an interesting platform where you can find a lot of data for any company you want. In a way, they add the design that Yahoo Finance was missing. Let's deep e the solutions they are proposing and the pricing.

Benefits of using FinViz : Not that much ...

We could spend a lot of time describing the advantages of such a platform, but is it still an advantage if there are 1000 other platforms using the same data, the same design, the same graphics and the same news?

Of course, this is all well and good, but FinViz does not give you an advantage in stock market. The data is raw and needs processing to be interesting.

The screener could be powerful, but it lacks a sorting function. It's fun to create a screener with 100 parameters, but you could only sort on one variable and you lose interest in balancing the strength of a company. This may sound harsh, but it is an important parameter to consider when screening. It means that you always put a company with one strength ahead of a company with many strengths. It's like judging students in only one area to see if they're good.

Price of FinViz

FinViz proposes a subscription at around $40 per month to become an Elite. With that we got an access to more data, more data and also... more data. This is definitely a pay to see more model where the hidden part is not a hidden gem. The first reason is that most of the data is already available on the Internet, the second is that, except for backtesting, there is no need to go too far back in time. Market, people, management, competition change, you cannot judge a company by its decision 20 years ago.

Let's face it, FinViz is a great product to get access to all the data you need. You pay for a basic solution if you don't want to spend too much time searching for the right information.

If that sounds tough, try the Nasdaq website or even Yahoo Financial. On the first one you will get the same data for free and without advertising.

Conclusion of using FinViz

For us, it's a no-go solution for FinViz Elite (40$ per month).
