About GuruScreener

GuruScreener is a free stock screener for the US market (NASDAQ and NYSE). It takes the published, time-tested strategies of legendary investors — Benjamin Graham, Warren Buffett, Joel Greenblatt, William O'Neil, Peter Lynch, Joseph Piotroski and more — and turns each one into a filter you can run over the entire market in a single click. Our goal is simple: give ordinary, patient investors the same disciplined, evidence-based process the greats used, without the spreadsheets or the paywall.

Who builds it

GuruScreener is built by a small team with backgrounds in software engineering and quantitative finance. We started it after years of reading the classics — Graham's The Intelligent Investor, Greenblatt's The Little Book That Beats the Market, O'Neil's How to Make Money in Stocks — and asking a simple question: could an algorithm apply these rules across thousands of stocks, every day, the way the authors described? GuruScreener is our answer.

Our methodology

Each screen implements the specific, published rules of a strategy as faithfully as public data allows. For every NASDAQ- and NYSE-listed company we compute the fundamentals a strategy needs — return on capital, earnings yield, ROE, ROIC, relative strength, the Piotroski F-Score and dozens more — then rank the market by that strategy's criteria. Where a strategy defines an exact formula (for example, the Magic Formula's combination of earnings yield and return on capital), we follow it; where it defines a threshold, we apply it. Every ranking is a research starting point, never a recommendation to buy or sell.

Where the data comes from & how often it updates

Fundamentals are derived from public company filings for US-listed stocks and refreshed daily; prices update through the trading day. Backtests apply each strategy's published rules to historical data — they are hypothetical, exclude many real-world frictions, and are shown to illustrate how a discipline behaved, not to predict the future. Past performance does not guarantee future results.

Editorial & accuracy standards

The strategy explainers on this site are written and reviewed by our research team, with sourcing back to the original books, studies and filings wherever possible. We correct errors when we find them, and we keep the figures on screener pages tied to the live data rather than marketing numbers. If you spot a mistake, please tell us.
